bike oil stains

Am really rather narked with dh. Yesterday it was apparently a good idea to take dd out for a bike ride wearing her new, best dress, which she's only had for a couple of weeks and only worn twice before. (Also, it was hand made by my mum - she spent a fair bit of time and effort on it.) This is despite having persuaded her not to take part in a community waste-land-reclamation thing, as "it wouldn't have been a good idea in her pretty dress".

So, dress has been tangled in chain, got bike oil on it and a good deal of very ground in grime - as if it was rubbing against the tyre for quite a while. Not having realised this had happened, I've washed the dress without pre-treating it or anything - I didn't notice the marks til I hung it up to dry.

I've got it soaking in vanish at the moment, and have tried scrubbing it with washing liquid (I use method normally). Marks aren't shifting though. Can anyone suggest anything else that might work?

Was going to say washing up liquid, but I see you tried that. What about swarfega (or however you spell it) might work Hmm

I use swarfega on oil and grease stains, rub it in,I leave it for a couple of hours and then wash at 60 degrees.

A can of coke works a treat with oil stains. Have not drunk the shite since discovering the marvellous household uses Grin
