Yes, otherwise it's crunchy.

I don't bother...probably should though!

No. I did wash DS's cot stuff though, when he was a brand new baby. Not any more.

Yes, due to surplus colour, and bugs living in cotton in the factories..... I believe in those bugs vehemently.

Yes, otherwise it has really odd folds in it from the packaging. Also like it to smell of my fabric conditioner, but I am utterly bonkers when it comes to my bedding requirements!

Yes, or it feels hard, smells of packaging and is very creased.

yes i wash all new bedding and clothes before using them, for myself and the children, i think they often put starches etc onto new clothes and bedding and they can irritate skin?

i have eczema tho so am always very careful, and i just think childrens skin is so soft and delicate that its best to err on the side of caution.

but my mil thinks i am being riddiculous and that clothes, bedding etc alwasy looks at its best that first wear when its never been washed and she moans that i insist on washing new clothes that she has bought for the boys and dd before they wear them Hmm

For me and DH no, for dc's yes.

I think this maybe a mild rebellion againts my mother who insists on washing everything prior to use and also ironing all bedding.

Needless to say I don't iron anything if I can help it, certainly not bedding. Therefore pre washed is the time it looks best on my bed!

No, but then I am a slattern...

Well the new sheets and duvet covers arrived and when I opened the packets they smelled weird, the chemicals I guess...or from the packaging so will definitely wash them first.

I tend to rinse them but not full wash.

Absolutely! Otherwise it would smell of plastic, be all crinkled and have Goodness only knows what sort of germs on it.

Too gross to even think about wearing clothes or sleeping in bedding that hadn't been washed.

Yes, it smells weird so has to be washed!

Yes, it smells all packety!

I do now, as I learned the hard way that new bedding feels horrible against the skin.

I never wash new clothes.

Yes I wash it and use fabric conditioner too. I know it is adding chemicals to it but if I don't, to me, it smells of chemicals. It is also a bit too starchy too if it is not washed.

Yes. And towels. Not clothes. Although I should wash new undies as ya never know do ya?!

Report
CrispyCakeHead · 17/02/2011 22:20

yes, cos it always smells all chemically and is really stiff and hard.

Same with towels as whatever they treat them with makes them really unabsorbent.

Never with clothes, apart from babygros and vests.

thumbwitch · 18/02/2011 22:41

I do always wash towels first though.

Eh? What strange parallel universe is this? People wash new stuff before using it?!

I love the new stuff smell!

Unwashed new bedding makes my skin itch, so yes, I always do. I think it's because of the things they put on it (starch?) to make it look better in the packaging.

mousymouse · 19/02/2011 12:16

I do, because it smells funny. and all the chemicals in there (dye, pesticides, sewing aids) are probably not good for you.
