Tips on cleaning leather

So we've stupidly spent a small fortune on a gorgeous new dining table, 3 chairs and a large oak/leather bench. It came yesterday and we've just had our first meal at it - thought dh was going to die of high blood prsessure through the whole meal at the thought of the dc (9, 6 & 4) putting their (not very) dirty fingers on the brown leather on the bench. (the table was ok - its got a clear plastic cover for mealtimes).

So after the meal there was some slightly greasy fingerprints on the leather-whats the best way to get them off? I just wiped them with a damp cloth but not sure if this is the right thing to do? Can i do this after every meal (or will dh just have to cover the bench too?)

wipe with a damp cloth as you've done. If you get a build up of dirt the best way of removing it is with saddle soap - brings up the natural leather beautifully.

thanks anonymosity - we've got a cream leather couch but the brown leather on this bench just seemed to show the dirt more.

will have a look for saddle soap!
