Resources to use for primary homework

My dd is starting year 3 in September and is starting to do more 'research' type homework- for this summer she has to write 10 facts on the Stoneage. I am teaching her how to research using google and about the different sites that will come up, such as Wikipedia and how she should chose what information to use. However I am conscious that it is confusing for her and that some sites may be too wordy, or may not be correct. I was wondering if others have a 'go to' site they always use, or even if it would be worth paying for one like Encyclopaedia Brittanica?

Woodlands Junior School has a great section here for children's research, it's aimed at KS2.

If you are using Wikipedia with her have you tried Simple Wikipedia? It's a child friendly version of the site, and not many people seem to know about it!

When doing a search, include the word "children" or "kids", this brings up the children's sites.

Thank you for the simple Wikipedia link! I'm going to use that in class. :)

Sorry, I'm a bit late to this but my friend showed me a great free children's encyclopedia site (her daughter is 9 so it's a bit old for my little 2 year old but I did quite enjoy a browse!). //www.q-files.com. Hope it's helpful.
