Children, Schools and Families Committee - report on
The Review of Elective Home Education is here

The Telegraph has reported it here:
The move followed claims in a study by Graham Badman, former head of education at Kent Council, that home education could be a front for abuse.

In the report, the select committee said these claims were built on a ?less than robust evidence base?.

Thanks Julie

There seems to be a lot here that the committee expects to be sorted before it can be 'considered by the house'. Let's hope this has been kicked into the long grass long enough for Mr Balls and his colleagues to be voted out.

The tories are going to have to be seen to be doing something with it, but I can't seem them having the same Stasi leanings as Balls and co.

DCSF has been saying "we have no choice, there is no alternative, all the evidence leads to this inescapable conclusion, it's nothing PERSONAL " and now the Select Committee has come along and said pretty much the opposite.

This, to my mind, has always been a spiteful government attempt to punish HE families.

and an answer to Diane Johnson's comments, reported by the BBC;

Does the Select Committee Report support the vast majority of the Badman Recommendations as claimed by DCSF?

I think Ms Johnson must have read a different report?!

How on earth can she say that the committee agreed with the majority of Badman's proposals!!

I've been doing some reading and, sadly, Balls has previous for totally disregarding select committees and doing what the hell he wants.

Some democracy...
