Curtains or Blinds - please help me decide

I have recently bought a small cottage on a village street. It is a conversion, so has high ceilings but relatively small rooms.

The Living Room faces North, with a relatively narrow window 110cm wide. The window is surrounded by attractive panelling.

I am torn between putting in floor length curtains or blinds.

Curtains will be more expensive but will make the room cosier. Blinds will show off the panelling and allow me to choose a more luxurious fabric, but will not be as cosy.

Please help me decide. Are curtains old fashioned these days? Is a single blind cosy enough in a living room?

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I prefer curtains in a living room. In a cottage you might find blinds look a bit out of place as sit better with a modern/contemporary look.

Thanks TiddleTaddleTat I think you are probably right.

My house / cottage is newly converted but I guess it will look better with curtains.

Why not both? It would help with heat retention to have thermal blinds but it would look nice to have curtains.

We used a discount, bespoke blind company via eBay who were great.

I have both. Vertical blinds for privacy and then curtains for decor and night time.

We have Roman blinds (not ever roller blinds in a period property, and we thought wooden venetian blinds would take too much light ) made from fabric. Same reason, panelling surrounds are beautiful. They look lovely open and closed, much to my surprise.
