Wall damage from roman blind installation - make a fuss?

Just not quite sure what to do here. I have just had some roman blinds made for my sitting room and they were fitted today. The blinds are beautiful, as I knew they would be - the maker is the daughter of an old friend and she has done stuff for me before. I was quoted a price and paid half as deposit with the balance due today.

However, I went in to the sitting room just now and thought I'd let the blinds down to see how they looked, and have discovered that there is damage to the paintwork where the cleats have been attached - this wasn't obvious when the blinds were up because all the damage to the wall was hidden by the cord wrapped around the cleats.

The wall is newly decorated and is a very strong colour and it will have to be touched up. My difficulty is this - if I were paying someone I didn't know, I would say something and/or keep back something from the fitting charge (which is separately itemised). This person does this professionally, and I would normally expect such damage to be remedied.

BUT, given this is a friend, should I just suck it up and either touch it up myself or get the decorator to do it as he is coming back to do something else anyway? I don't want to be mean, but nor do I want to be taken advantage of!

What would you do?

I'd get the decorator to touch it up - these things happen. Do you still have the paint? If not, buy a little tester pot.

There are three blinds and the damage is similar on each cleat.

Friend or not, I'd sort that out myself - far less hassle than getting someone back, especially as you have the paint. You know how you feel though and if it's going to bug you, call them back.

I’d just touch it up myself as the damage looks superficial and minor.

When you get your tin of paint out, pour some into a jam jar or screw top jar and keep it under the sink. Makes it much easier to do touch ups than having to lever the lid of the tin.

Honestly? You don’t know what to do? You fix it yourself! Looks like the paint hasn’t bonded well to the base layer...I expect you will have this problem lots.

That's not wall damage it's paint damage and would take seconds to touch up. If you can't do it then call her back to do it for you. Agree with pp the paint looks like it hasn't been applied properly, it shouldn't chip like that.

Yeah, I wouldn't even bother waiting for the decorator to come back. Just do it yourself, it'll take 2 minutes.

I'm sorry, but I can't believe you are thinking of asking a decorator to fix that?

I keep a tiny roller and artist's paint brushes in the house for little touch ups like that. With such a strong colour you'll probably have to do lots of little repair jobs as it will show marks easily.

And it doesn't have to be perfect as the blind cord will hide it most of the time anyway.

Is it just paint, not an actual piece of plaster gouged out? It looks fairly minimal, tbh.

I took all your views on board, paid the balance and didn't go back to my friend, figuring I would just do it myself this weekend.

Today I have had an acknowledgement of my payment of the balance, an unprompted apology for the damage and an offer to come back and make good. I have just said no problem and that I am happy to fix it myself. Honour satisfied all round...
