What flooring with this kitchen?

We are having ivory gloss units with a (beautiful) mid coloured wood effect laminate worktop. See pic attached.

I want wood (well, laminate as budget doesn’t stretch to real wood) flooring but not sure if this is the right choice.

If I had wood worktop and wood floor would if need to be the same colour? And if not then should the floor be darker or lighter?

Or something completely different?

What flooring with this kitchen?

IMO it should match but wood or wood effect flooring in a kitchen is not the most practical solution unless you’re going for wood effect vinyl floor tiles like Karndean or Amtico.

I’d go a stone effect floor or tiles.

For what reason isn’t it practical to have wood?

You can get fantastic wood effect floor tiles now which look like real wood and no dearer than top range laminate such as Quick Step etc

I’ve just had a look at the karndean, it looks great. Can’t make head nor tail of the Amtico website!

It can not like getting wet very much which can be a pain in the kitchen.

I’ve had laminate and Amtico (same stuff as Kardean but we bought what the fitter liked best) and the latter is just so much easier because it’s hard wearing and doesn’t swell if it gets wet.

We had laminate put down in our kitchen and massively regret it. It is a total mess near the washing machine. We're going to replace most likely with karndean or similar.

I think a dark red Karndean type floor, quarry tile style, would look good with the cream, would give some warmth with the colour and be serviceable.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
Definitely going to look more into karndean
