Alternative to a white bathroom theme - decor advice needed!

We are relocating our bathroom to a smaller room, and I would like white decor (matt white tiles, maybe with a white pattern) to stop it feeling too dark.

But! DH hates the idea, says it will look like a public gents and needs some colour. He won't be moved, so I need to compromise a bit.

I was thinking of adding decorative touches, e.g. copper framed mirror, etc, but I think it's the tile colour that will make the difference in terms of us agreeing.

Any suggestions? Seen anything nice? Would really appreciate some ideas!

Have you considered tile transfers? I have a plain beige bathroom (not my choice - people before me) and I was fed up with it!

So I got a black and white photo-style shower curtain, black bathmat and a few black accessories. Then I got some black tile transfers from eBay and just dotted them about in a haphazard fashion.

You don't have to go with black - red, teal or blue would also look good - but it really breaks up the whole neutral look. Plus, you can just peel them off and change them when you get bored :)

Grey is popular at the moment but I guess he wouldn't see that as a colour?

Pale green or pale grey-blue are probably the safest options. Something like this.

Would also go nicely with copper touches.

As another alternative - how about having white tiles, but only around the shower/bath and sink splashback, and then painting everywhere else? That way you can choose a bold colour paint and change it easily in future. Also cheaper that way!

I would use good lighting and large mirrors to make it lovely and bright. Then you could have something other than white as that sounds quite cold. Beige? Pale grey?

We've just done ours...white subway tiles three quarters up, then a wood 'strip' then cream/off white above. Sink unit and cabinet cream/off white, with big mirror on cabinet, very pale pink small mosaic tiles on the shower walls. Light wood look floor and and door. Wooden toilet roll holder and accessories, and a succulent plant in the corner. It looks lovely even if I do say so myself and gives a lot more space, light and warmth.

I would go with white for all the things that are more easily replaceable (suit and tiles) and add colour with the accessories and by not having full height tiles everywhere so you can have a coloured wall.

Have a look on houzz or Pinterest. You should be able to find Seth that both of you like.

We have white with a band of turquoisey-greeny glass and black art deco tiles. We have duck-egg coloured towels and blind which look nice with the glass
