Can you give me some ideas for new bedding please?

I feel like I've lost my touch! I used to be a housekeeper FGS, making beds look lovely was what I did. I can't seem to get our bed looking right though since we inherited a bed that's quite high off the ground.

I'm going to get a white split corner valance so it will go all the way round (I know they're not to everyone's taste, but I like them) and would like to keep a white duvet, but I'm stuck after that. I can't decide if I want blue touches like the Dunelm Dorma Blue Toile collection (which I love but not sure it fits this room) or more of a dusky pink. So I'd like a coverlet in whatever colour I decide, and then maybe a flat sheet for under the duvet in a similar colour, with some colour in the pillows too.

But should I be getting square pillows as well as rectangle? Or three rectangle in a row on each side, with a square cushion in front?

Do you think I'm making the bed too girly for the colour scheme? Oh it's so hard! Any ideas, tips, suggestions, links, whatever - please send them this way! I can't trawl through Pinterest anymore.

Get linen duvet covers and pillowcases. I think they feel lovely but also manage to make beds look artfully rumpled and inviting, rather than messy.

I've just googled 'linen bedding' and saw this pic, I see what you mean. It looks really cosy and inviting.

Should I be going more simple with the colour scheme like the picture too do you think?

I've just had a proper look at your pictures and, as a personal preference, I think a simpler colour scheme would be fantastic as the colour of your walls plus the (amazing!) floorboard would really work with a more understated linen.

However, my tastes do veer towards the simple and I'm not brilliant with dealing with loads of colour so it might just be a personal taste thing.

I suspect you won't go far wrong as you have excellent 'raw materials' in what you've already got.

Love the bed and the wall colour - I like plain but different fabrics so I would probably opt for a dove grey rather than blue or white. Maybe some linen and velvet backed cushions - try cox and cox all very understated but luxurious!

What about the two top pillows and a throw being the same colour as your blue wall.

Buttered I did try that originally, because DP is a farmer and always makes the bedding filthy, so I tried to add some dark things in. But it was impossible to match the blue exactly, and it was too close to the wall for an 'almost' match.

I really like the picture I posted above of the linens, the plain colours are more 'me' so maybe that's where I was going wrong, trying to get too complicated. I love Cox & Cox too.

Now another question Grin - what pillows should I have? Should I try and get some square ones or will all rectangle suit the 'relaxed' look more?
I also have a small double in one of the spare rooms and struggle with pillows on that, because it's not quite wide enough for two rectangles side by side. Should I get two square for that bed maybe? That's more of a well-made bed because it never gets used so I would like it looking less relaxed than our bed. I'll find a picture, hang on.

Also, what size duvets do you all have for your beds? This is a king size on a double bed, and the small double has a double duvet. I prefer the double though because it's feather, and I think it would look cosier with linen bedding. I'm just not sure if it will drape enough either side and whether I should invest in a King feather duvet?

Here is spare room. Ignore the bed frame colour, it was given to us free and will eventually be black when I can be bothered and also the walls haven't been painted yet. Wall behind bed will be French Gray. Any ideas for this room's bedding?

I've just seen this on Pinterest, it looks so luxurious. That's the colour the spare room will be - I wonder if I could do that with the spare room bedding? Frantically trying to find a use for it in the house before I start painting our blue wall green Grin

Yes it's nice. Although I do like your curtains in the spare room already. Could you do floral on the bedding or accessories to match maybe.

I know, I did think it would be a shame to take them down. I got them from Oxfam and really love them. I've got purple in the dressing room though so I could potentially put them in there, or in the lounge. They're the only curtains we own at the moment unorganised Grin

I'd really like them in the lounge actually, but I don't think they would work as there's a window at either end of the room and I only have the one pair :(
