Painting the stairwell in a terrace

In the midst of redecoration after having the plastering done. We're in a back to back terrace and the first flight of stairs have no natural light. We have painted bright white but already hand prints are appearing. DH has suggested we paint the lower half in a darker colour to make any marks less visible. Would this look weird?

If you want to keep it white could you re paint it with a dulux endurance white ? If not what colours are your carpets/flooring

Also Google white and colour combinations. Some nice ones came up on pininterest

Our stairs have no light of their own but do get some when upstairs doors are open.

We have a nearly-white (almond or nutmeg or something) above the dado rail & a pale chocolatey colour below. It looks fine Smile

Handprints show whatever the colour paint you choose:-( Go with washable (scrubbable) white.

What about the logistics of getting into the double height void? We moved house rather than paint that!

Years ago we repainted our terrace stairwell from magnolia woodchip.

We reinstated the picture rail and painted the ceiling and above it white which brightened the whole area and brought the ceiling lower and made it less 'slot' like and gave it a wider feel.

Make sure everything below the dado is washable.

Thanks all, will come back to it once the kid's room and lounge is finished! Will deff have a look on pinintrest. We don't have the void on the first floor, just on second and we're not touching that, think we have enough to be getting on with!
