Colour advice needed please.

I'm doing a quick freshen up in my living room.

I have two large black sofas that I'm keepin for now.
I have a rug that ar one end has some navy in and has a lighter blue in the middle getting lighter unti it is beige at the end. I love this and want to keep it.
I'm changing y wall paper and carpets and putting up curtains.

What carpet and curtains would you suggest? I tend to go go for plains.

I'd pick a shade of blue from the rug for the curtains, and maybe a nice neutral colour for the carpet so it will last if you change the decor and won't clash when you change the sofas

I was thinking of blue. I have never had curtains since I left home at 18 (I'm 51 now) so it's a new thing for me!

I still haven't got round to putting up curtains in my living room. I've been here 15 years. I know it bothers my dm greatly

I have had every variation of blind going but never curtains. It bothers my mum as well

I have voiles. Apparently these aren't 'proper'
