what do I put in my hallway

I have a flat with all rooms leading from my hall. It's not very big maybe 8x8 with a skinny bit off to other rooms. I fancied tiles
Or parquet but worried that the old central heating will pack up and they will have to be pulled up. Carpets there now which is ok but not great. Any advice appreciated.
