Bunk Bed - how to make a reading nook / den underneath?

Hi,

I want to make a den / reading nook with fairy lights and curtain for my daughter on her bottom bunk. Any ideas on how to do it? Where to buy bits etc.

Unfortunately I am not handy with a sewing machine!

thx

That sounds like a great idea, could you buy curtain/voile panels and pin them/staple gun them to the underneath of top bunk, use wonder web to hem. Look at ikea for ideas, and Pinterest.

Noooo, not staple gun for curtains, they'll be ripped off in no time!

Use curtain wire - www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-curtain-wire-kit-with-hooks-and-eyes/p348388

Don't bother buying curtains, just get a length of fabric, fold the top over and wonder web it, leaving a 'tube' to insert the curtain wire, and wonder web the bottom. Though my 6yo did this herself on the sewing machine, you don't need to be handy (wonkiness is part of the charm!! But you could use tailor's chalk to mark a line first if it helps). Then screw in the hooks and bingo, curtains for about £15. We used more of the material and a staple gun to staple it to the underside of the top bunk to cover the slats, leaving room for command hooks for fairy lights. Bekvam spice racks as gallery bookshelves on the walls are neat too.

Sorry, we bought fabric, curtain wire, command hooks from John Lewis and Bekvam spice racks from IKEA - but TBH you can get curtain wire at most DIY stores, fabric/curtain shops etc.

Oh yes didn't think about them being ripped off. eBay if you don't have any nearby ikea?

Tension rods are great too

Have you looked on Pinterest - your daughter is very lucky!

I'm not sure you even need Curtains, just put a blanket under the top bunk mattress and let it dangle down!
