Carpet: four kids, two dogs, four cats

My carpets are a sandy coloured nylon. I'm constantly hoovering them and sighing at the stains on them.

Is there a better more durable product for stairs and bedrooms?

I look at things like sisal and other grasses but are they unpleasant to have in the home?

Difficult to clean I understand and have to be glued down so a pain when it comes to replacing. Probably not a good choice with pets and kids.

Just been carpet shopping.

Independent carpet shop advice was

  1. twist pile
  2. wool, or a high wool blend mix (you'll think it's higher maintenance but less likely to stain than manmade fibres)
  3. forgiving colour - look for something with internal colour variation rather than flat all over which will show the dirt/pile rubbed the wrong way.

Which is a shame, because my ideal carpets are loop-pile waffle textured cream affairs. But until I live alone I need to get over it!

Children, dog and cats 5 here
Most rooms are wood floors with replaceable IKEA rugs and tiles for the bathroom.
Mats outside the front and back door
They are so much easier than my carpeted rooms (2)
