Two questions, sofas and gloss that doesn't yellow...

Ok, I'm in the process of looking for new sofas. They need to be leather and mid brown I know, I know. I would much rather have fabric bit with 3 DC mine are currently trashed. Where is a reputable place to get them from? My budget is smallish, £2,000 for both.

Also, I recently glossed my downstairs toilet; the skirtings, door, doorframes and wooden boxing that is above the skirting. A few weeks later and it's yellow. So the white walls now look ridiculous. I'm going to paint the walls a soft plum colour, but want my white bits to stay white. Is there anywhere that sells non yellowing gloss? There's no natural light in the room.

It's the no natural light that's causing the yellowing. Presume you used oil based?

What was the paint underneath like? When we moved in here everything was very nicotine stained and the only way we found to prevent that coming through was to use a stain block paint as an undercoat.

Apparently the "new" good quality gloss paints (johnstones was recommended to us) are acrylic based and don't yellow.

Try a stain block primer underneath.

No idea re sofas.

All paint will be water based by the end of the year with the new EU legislations. But as water based doesn't yellow that's what you will need. All brands do water based. Anything labelled as 'quick dry' will be water based too

It's a new build and it was painted 'white' but that also yellowed, so I thought I would paint over it again, which also yellowed! I haven't got a clue what I used, possibly homebase's own.

Yes I assumed it was because there was no natural light, I will look for water based then, thank you.

Sofas: if you want fabric, go to ikea. Covers are removable, washable and fairly cheaply replaceable. You'll come in way under budget too. I have cats who think the sofa arms are a scratching post and ikea sofas have saved my sanity and wallet.

Paint: oil based paint and lack of light is a killer. Use water based. I speak from bitter experience!
