Small bedroom - footboard or not?

I'm beginning to think about the transition of moving my daughter from her cot to a bed. Due to fitted surround wardrobes, the position of her bed has to be in the middle of an already very small room.

I'll be going for a simple shaker style white bed.

I'm trying to figure out whether to try to avoid a footboard as I remember reading somewhere ages ago that footboards make rooms look smaller?

However any beds I've been looking at seem to look rather unfinished if they don't have a footboard.

What do you all think? Footboard - yay or nay?

We have a small bedroom with a king size bed in it, with no footboard (well, a very low one, barely there at all!). It's actually much more practical without the footboard as it means you can sit on the end of the bed when getting dressed or whatever. We use a bedspread so it doesn't look unfinished.
