Kitchen dining room. Alternative for curtains?

We have a kitchen diner with a big old pair of sliding patio doors at one end, they take up the whole wall. It is bloody cold in the winter and I would like to cover them to save heat and make the place feel a bit cosier. But curtains? In the kitchen? I cook a lot, and they'll be filthy all the time. Wwyd? I can't be doing with vertical blinds, the place will look like an office. Help!

I have a large bay at one side of the dining area in my kitchen. I have roman blinds in the kitchen end of the room and, on the bay, have sham curtains and a padded pelmet with a roller blind behind. As they are not right in the kitchen area I don't think they get particularly mucky
