Does anyone have DC at Royal Holloway? Looking for some feedback on it really.
DD has an offer for there and we like it. Concerns for me were job avalibility in local area really

Friend's son reading Biochemistry there and loves it. Not sure about job sitaution though but affluent area so assume plenty of coffee shops etc

Ds in final year. There are hotels and supermarkets in the area for work, Legoland and Thorpe Park, and the su has its bars and pub.

Village is quite small but there’s a lot of pubs that take students on, which aren’t far from the university.
They have a job website with one off jobs working in university or out.

Otherwise Staines is 10-20 minutes on train for retail.

It’s just a campus university not like the ones in the city.

When I was there I don't remember anyone struggling to find work if they needed to - the SU and campus bars employ students, there are plenty of hotels, supermarkets and pubs in the area and if you have access to a car then places like Wentworth open up for waitressing/ bar work etc.

Anyone know how well regarded RH is for Politics?

Well regarded. Ds has enjoyed a diverse range of course modules and opportunities.

It depends what you want to do afterwards with Politics. What type of employer does she want? Many Politics grads don’t work in top level politics as an Advisor or the FO or Home Office etc. So who is likely to be regarding the value of the course in addition to your DD?

I really don’t mean to be dismissive or rude, but cleatly it’s not Oxford (PPE) or top
ranking for Politics so what are her plans? Many employers won’t care about course content because it’s irrelevant to them. They will like soft skills, general intelligence and personality. A Politics grad is competing for jobs with English, History, MFL, Geography, Sociology, Anthrapology, Philosophy and any other grads you can think of where grads are entering the general jobs market. A friend of DDs did Politics at Exeter and is working for Asos. I would imagine they didn’t care about what she studied. It is more about how she fits into their grad employment scheme with skills she has acquired.

Friend of DS is there and loves it, just be aware that rental accommodation for beyond first year is very expensive compared to Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds etc.

I live in the borough.

Although parts of Egham are well-to-do, there is a high level of deprivation in the area generally and weed is a massive problem amongst young people.
