Mech Eng Year in industry HELP!

My brother's year in industry has just fallen through - something about a project or a contract being cancelled. Any idea where he might be able to apply at such late notice?

Anyone work for a smaller company that doesn't usually offer placements but might be able to squeeze one in? In certain areas he would do it for free.

We're grasping at straws here and he's so stressed out! What can we do?

Hello,

Have he tried YINI? www.etrust.org.uk/year-industry/vacancies
He may be able to find something here.

Another option would be to contact companies he would like to work with directly. Sometimes they look at applications ad-hoc. I know some companies I work with ( rail industry) do.

Good luck

What sort of thing does he want to specialise in? Any particular geographical area?

I'd advise he speaks with his department - someone will have been assigned for his placement year to ensure it is suitable for him to get the MEng (the placement years can for some departments need to meet specific criteria for MEng so be wary of accepting 'anything' - that might not be the case for his department but check first) They may know of somewhere that could help.

He's interested in renewables mostly, he's done work experience in two types of manufacturing and found that pretty interesting too but I'm not sure that's where he necessarily wants to end up.

He's sent off around 50 applications on spec so we're crossing fingers.
