does anyone on here work in retail

just wondering how working in retail works with having children and childcare etc

I work in retail, was Ftime before baby, now am part time, work all day sunday, mon eve and fri eve, dh looks after dd when Im at work.
work in Trafford centre, open till 10pm so I can get my hours in.
Fabulous job and they were 100% flexible when I had the baby

yes i did go back p/t but then decided to leave, but now i have been offered f/t with a really great company, but i just think its too many hours, with kids will i ever feel like i see them, is it fair on them to take the job??

They are pretty good if you work for one of the big guns like a supermarket. Because of the amount of staff they need and the cover that is required - they prefer to employ a high percentage of part-time staff instead of fewer full-time.

This is good for people who need part-time hours such as mums. There is also the oppurtunity to change shifts by prior arrangement with the management because of the variety of staff there. There is this 'scratch my back and i'll scratch yours' attitude found between the mums working towards shift-swapping.

There is also the oppotunity to have your hours 'set' every week to make it easier for you to organise your life - although you may find this hinders any future requests to change yours. (The scratching scenario again!)

the hours of the store are 9-6 not bad the job will be full time, my decision is based on is this fair on my children...i'm soooo guilt ridden its terrible
