I've just got a job, very happy as I've been out of work a long time and wasn't sure anyone would hire me.

It's an apprenticeship and I have negotiated part time hours as opposed to full time. I was told the minimum hours are 22.5 so I have agreed, she said 22.5 with half a day as a study day. At the time I assumed this half a day was included in the 22.5 hours but now I'm not sure if it is in addition to it. Does anyone have experience of this?

Also, I know I am allowed to have some negotiation with hours, I really need it split over 4 days rather than 3 longer days, for health reasons and the fact that childcare will cost me a lot more than I am earning in the holidays, but I also know I need to fit in with their needs and they may need me to do 3 longer days. I'll go with what they need obviously but I'm just trying to clarify things in my mind before they get in touch again to discuss the details.

The study time will be part of the 22.5 hours

That's great. So my actual working hours will be 18ish hours hopefully. Do you know if the studying is done at home or college @bigchris? When I spoke to the college about a previous apprenticeship, they said the only day I need to go in to college was the day I enrolled so I assume it would be the same for this one?
