Work

Is over 40 an age issue now?

I'm looking for part time office admin work and have lots of experience in this field. I'm also experienced in customer complaint handling (office based).
I guess I must be chasing the same scant supply of jobs as the next 1,000 or so people!
I have applied for all the vacancies I spot, but rarely do I get an acknowledgment.
I have noticed that some adverts now say things like "person required to join our young team"...
Which indicates their preference regarding age.
Is this a regular thing?
To struggle to get a look in at 42?
Allegedly I still have another 26 years of work in me.

Preference regarding age?! Bloody hell. Is that even legal?

Set of bastards. I'd much rather work with someone with experience than a wet 18 yr old with none.

Person required to join our young team is discriminatory language, of course they could then say that 'our team is young' so it's hard to prove malicious intent. But it's definitely not the kind of language I'd expect to see from a firm which even had a whisper of HR nous about it.

I think part time work is the golden egg. It's so hard to get that there are loads and loads of candidates chasing the same jobs.
