No idea what I can do!

Im in need of some help please.

I want to get back into work but have no idea what I can do or where to even start. I am a qualified counsellor with a MA. I have years of experience, plenty of hours etc but I cannot find a reliable job in this area and the longer I'm away from it the more I realise I'm probably happier not counselling. I have had a few contracts but not enough to keep me in regular work. I run a small private practice but find making a profit increasingly impossible and it doesn't fit with small children.

Before that I was an office manager (8 years ago). I did this for 5 years. I supervised staff, did accounts and general management.

Before that I was in call centres for about 6 years so basically customer service.

I now have children and I'm their main carer.

I am wanting to apply for jobs that aren't counselling roles but after speaking to a few recruitment consultants in the areas of Social Care they've basically said there is only carer work at min wage available for me.

Dh has no idea where should start and tbh neither do I! I have many qualification form NVQ 4 in management a BSC, MA but none of these match each other.

What kind of role would I fit into? Where do I start. I've also done years and years of voluntary work as a counsellor. I need regular paid employment!

You could see this as an opportunity to look at the bits of each job you've had that you actually enjoy doing. Then look at previous jobs and see the actual skills you've developed, most of which will be transferable into many other jobs.

DH got me book called 'Business Model You' which helped me. It's a bit American and can be waffly but it helped me look through my previous careers, none of which I wanted to return to, and pick out what I liked and what I was good at. Plus what I didn't like!

Looking at your previous roles it looks like you have a fabulous set of skills. Call centre and counselling suggests you can deal with customers and help diffuse crises and as office manager you've managed people and got organisational skills.

I'd also have a browse at the reed.co.uk website and filter on the skills you've got, it might give you some ideas about the variety of jobs that need your skills and give you a starting point.
