Top tips for having a G&T child

I'm pregnant and really want to have an exceptional child. I currently play classical music to my bump every day but does anyone know of any research done that will help determine your baby's mental capacities in the womb?

No. What is wrong with wanting to give my baby the best possible start in life? His father and I are both Mensa people and I suppose we do have high expectations, but we just want to give our baby the best possible start at the earliest possible age.

FGS - we all want to do whatever is best for our babies. Tbh, I would concentrate on having a healthy, happy, and loved baby.

Seriously Lotrl, just in case you are real, don't forget that intelligence isn't everything, it doesn't make you happy, and there are no guarantees about making a child bright. I think current thinking suggests that there is not really a lot you can do to make a child exceptional, and of course the big danger here is that your child might be a perfectly lovely normal child but fail to live up to your high expectations and end up feeling rejected and unloved.
There is a fascinating book called 'How Babies Think' by Gopnik and Meltzof which talks about early brain development - you would probably find it really interesting. However, it does suggest that really there's not a lot you can do to make a child bright.

if you lay an open dickens novel or shakespeare on top of your bump your baby will be able to absorb the words through your tummy

but make sure to turn the pages for your baby cos it won't want to read the same page over and over again

You should sing only Neil Diamond songs.
You should eat only quinoa and organic mud
You should spin 3 times clockwise before going to bed each night

This will either make your child G&T or have hairy fingers - but I think the hairy fingers are in the genes anyway aren't they?

Agree totally with Detoxdiva...why put pressure on your unborn baby (and yourself)?

And what are "Mensa people"....??? People who can pass some tests on the back of a Sunday Supplement then join to make themselves feel better?

I do read novels out loud as this has been proven to have an effect, as has the music. I just wondered if anyone else who had a gifted child had any other tips as to what they did during their pregnancies to maximise the chances of an intelligent child.

It's vitally important that you tell all your friends - especially anyone who is a parent or pregnant - that your baby will be far more intelligent than their poor, sad, thickhead children.

This way, you will be unbothered by time consuming relationships and demanding support networks. Now you'll have much more time to devote to hitching your kid's IQ up a few notches!

TBH after watching that gifted children programme, it would put me off ever wanting my child to be exceptionally G&T at all!!! Not that I ever did but YKWIM!

I only have friends who have the same intelligence as myself as otherwise it's not fair is it? I would want the same for my child, I would only want him to mix with other gifted children or it wouldn't be fair on the other children.

It is not possible for him to be anything other than gifted as we, his parents, are both of above average intelligence.
