What's the point of picking veg in a G&T club

My 7 year old has been asked every year to attend the G&T club after school, they asked him in year 1 but he was already committed to Beavers on Thursdays so he couldn't attend G&T until last term when he went up to Cubs & began to do a different night. I'm not driving at the minute & picking him up late with a cranky ds2 is a pain, but I'll do it as I believe in stretching him as much as possible.

However all he has done for the past 6 weeks is gardening. Last night they were picking strawberries to give to a couple of year 5 girls who made milkshakes out of them. That's it. I grow my own veg in the garden so veg picking is not new to him & he can do it anytime he wishes :)

I thought G&T would be more academic & honestly I just don't see the point of what they are doing at the minute? Am I being precious?!

G&t doesn't mean having to do work all the time though dies it? I'd be glad that physical and emotional needs and therapeutic activities like gardening were taking place. They all combine to make learning easier and more fun and ensure a well rounded child :)

G&T clubs are about the social and relaxation side of things as well as the academic.

If you can't see the point of your child making friends with other bright children and relaxation you are going to have fun when he grows up.

It's enrichment. Who decided on the activities? Maybe the kids themselves voted for gardening?

it is enrichment if you do not do these things already... it would annoy me too, though there may be more to it that he is not telling you. I had no idea that dd had been to gardening club until she presented me with a bag of mud, leaves and a few miniscule carrots.

if we were offered g and t club, I would like them to do stuff they would not normally be able to do.
