It's caused by a mite, so any close contact can cause it to spread.

Are you seriously saying that she has given him up to his grandparents because of this?

my friend's baby has just had scabies, so we know a bit about it, so according to our doctor ....

fact: little insects mites bury under the skin, which is what causes the red marks

fact: you can only catch it from close personal skin to skin contact for a prolongued period (10 minutes or so)

fact: you can't catch it from towels, bedding, etc, unless your baby was wrapped in the towel etc immediately after it came off the other baby (the insects don't live away from the body)

fact: it can be treated in one sitting, by applying a cream that you rub into the baby skin from the pharmacist or doctor (although they recommend a second treatment a week later to be sure)
