Is it possible to have Mastitis type symptoms when you haven't breastfed for a couple of years?

I feel like I have the onset of mastitis but haven't breast fed for a couple of years. My boob is tender and my nipple is rock hard and looks slightly swollen and inverted on one side.

Yes. I had this about 4 years after having finished BF. Really rock hard and hot. I was on holiday at the time so didn't get any AB from the doctor.

ABout 6 weeks later I had a yucky black discharge (sorry if TMI) which terrified the life out of me. I was terrified it was a sign of something sinister. Luckily we have private health cover and I was seen and had all the tests within a few days and they showed this was the remains of the infection that had found its way out. The specialist advised me to get ABs very quickly if it happened again which thankfully it didn't

I really would advise you to go to the doctor to get it checked.

Thank you, I must admit I was veering towards sinister.

I had this after 2 mc's, I thought it was something sinister, gp placed me on AB.

Gp seems to think I may have a kink in one of my milk ducts as the infection is in the same place, but felt unnecessary to refer me further only if it happens a third time.

Thanks I will go to the drs, last time I had it I left it and it was horrendous. To be honest I think I should have probably been drained. I don't think my nipple has ever recovered.
