I am due to get it done in a couple of weeks and would like to know how soon after do you feel ok? Is there pain after or is it just achey? Did your periods feel the same?

I felt fine the next day. My periods have stayed the same. Well it was 5 years ago it was done, maybe the last 18 months they are heavier but I have endometriosis so I think its due to that.

However before I was sterilised I had a laparoscopy to look for endometriosis/fibroids - so the same proceedure. Infact as they were only looking it was less of a proceedure and I was in agony for a week. Couldn't get out of bed agony. My advice is to get some peppermint capsules to help with the trapped wind/shoulder tip pain. They pump you full of gas and this is what gave me problems first time. Nobody told me about it either so I was convinced I was dying. I'm convinced the peppermint made a difference the next time, think they're called mintec?

Hi I am 23 years of age, I got a four year old girl and 18 month old boy, because we got a boy and a girl me and my husband decided we didnt want anymore children for a good while or maybe none. As I got constant headaches with the injection after my daughter, I was advised the pills are not the best method for me, so I decided to go for the copper coil. As I started my periods when I was a teenager, I used to struggle, due to pain, cramps and heavy bleeding, and so did my other two younger sisters. Anyway after the coil, all my problems started:
1: pain and bleeding after intercourse
2: also going to toilet regularly, cant hold my urine, have to hold the area so i try not to leak before i get there, you can call it bladder weakness
3:: still heavy period going through tampons and pads like nobodys business, changing every hour, restricted to outdoor activities, i cant even go to my mums, cause im scared i will leak through since i have been changing my pants continousoly through the day and having my sons nappy changing mat under me at night with regular trips to toilet to change sanitary towels.
4: recent pelvic pain and bone in the bum pain, which resulted in a week in bed, with hot water bottle, having to put my hand under my bum to get up comfortably
5: I was anaemic whilst teenager, so I have been on iron meds for over ten years. But recently its affected me, I have been having alot of dizzy spells.
Stomach feels bruised when slightly firmly touched
Sometimes left side pain in stomach like tip of knife being poked slightly.

Anyway, I have had 3 occasions where I have heavy 7 day bleeding each time within 5 weeks. I had a gap of twenty days since my last period started before all this happened, I have got a bad back in result ie the pain you suffer when having contractions. I went to GP, my urine test was clear from infections. So then I went again,I was given and internal Examination just in case the coil was out of place, which it wasn't. GP took 3 swabs, and told me that it will take two weeks for results. In the meantime I have been given antibiotics called Oflaxcin and Metronidazole to take for two weeks twice a day each. If the swabs come clear they will send me for a scan but GP said it maybe FIBROIDS. i have had a weight gain in my belly since the last 6 months, and i get asked, are you pregnant? it looks as if i am 12-13 weeks pregnant, i am very slim, so you can hardly tell i already have two children. I would also like to mention that I have had an underactive thyroid since birth, had a total thyroidectomy and radioterapy in 2006, just after my daughter turned the age of one. although, I have routine checkups, I was told by my GP, IT MAY BY THE HORMONES PLAYING UP!!!

CAN ANYBODY ADVICE ME WHETHER I SHOULD HAVE THE COIL TAKEN OUT, COZ THAT WAS THE BEST METHOD THAT SUITED MY HEALTH, AND CONDOMS IS THE ONLY OTHER HEALTHY OPTION FOR ME BUT MY HUSBAND IS NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THEM.

I WOULD LOVE YOUR OPINIONS AND EXPERIENCES. U CAN EMAIL ME ON [email protected]

I HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

neemo you should definitely see your GP about the problems you're having, they could well be related to the coil. Would you could consider a diaphragm?

Neemo, I had most of these problems and ended up having the coil taken out. Everything cleared up. Can you try the mirena coil as bleeding can be less with it, or are the hormones in it no good?

Hey I had Mine done a week ago and I feel ok now but it's took a week I still have trouble picking things up off the floor and for the first 2 days i walked like a old women you don't realise how much you use your stomach muscles i would also go buy big knickers that cover the whole of your belly just for support and so your knickers dont stick to the stitches plus one thing I couldn't do was cuddle my baby because of the stitches in my belly button I had my mum stay for 2days to help out ,they say u bleed afterwards but I didn't and I couldn't have a bath for three days because I couldn't get off my back lol so only had showers

I had it done years ago, no problems. Back to work the next day. Was warned about wind, pain in shoulder area etc. but it never happened.
Best day's work ever. But I appreciate some may not be as lucky.

A little late but I wanted to share my experience. I was looking for reviews before my sterilisation and it seems people only post the bad stuff!
I had a laparoscopic sterilisation last Thursday, it’s Monday now, so 4 days ago. Got to hospital at 12.30pm, had the operation at 3.30pm and was on my way home at 7.30pm. Woke up in a little pain, had some morphine and was fine after that. They warn about shoulder pain from the gas but I didn’t have any. The only discomfort I’ve suffered is constipation! I’ve a couple of tiny bruises on my tummy. The scars are so small, one in my belly button and one on my pubic hair line. Both have just 1 stitch and are smaller than my little finger nail. So glad I’ve had it done.

I was fine the next day, had some bloating from the gas, but that's it. Best thing I've ever done.
