How do i clear wax from my ear with olive oil?

I have been to gp today as keep going dizzy, he said my left ear canal is completly blocked with wax and he couldnt see anything, and to try and inblock it with olive oil.

So over the space of an hour i have dropped 2 ml of oil in, it felt quite nice actually but nothing has come out!

Does anyone know if i should keep putting oil in till something comes out or try again tomorrow, or is it normal for nothing to come out, surely if the whole canal was blocked some wax should come out?

I get very waxy ears whenever I go swimming and use olive oil to clear it all the time. Will try explain this as best I can.

Tilt your head so affected ear is pointing up.
Put the olive oil in and then some cotton wool.
Rub (massage) your head next to your ear, where the little cartlidge thing is for a little bit, stil with your head tilted. Do it for a good few minutes.
Change the cotton wool for a clean bit.
Tilt your head in the opposite direction so that any waxy oil runs out onto the cotton wool.

You might find it easier lying down on each side so your neck doesnt get stiff.

Reapeat if it doesnt feel completely clear

I will try that tomorrow 5 in the bed, thanks x It doesnt feel blocked though thats the thing so dont know if anything happening or not.

I have been on the net and most of the stuff seems to suggest that the oil just softens for syringing, that was the next suggestion from the gp, but i have heard that really hurts

I find that by massaging it, you loosen up any wax that is there. You could try warming it up slightly, but I'm always weary that I'll cook my eardrum

DP has problems with wax build-up and he uses Sodium Bicarbonate drops (in the same way 5inthebed describes) over a period of time which softens the wax.

Sometimes it just seems to come away by itself, other times hes had his ears syringed afterwards by the practice nurse at the GPs surgery
