General health

I would just like to big up physiotherapists.

I went for physio today on my broken matatarsal. Physio guy was excellent, said I had sprained ankle and plantar fasicitis too. He has diagnosed more today than the hospital or dr was able too.

Have lots of exercises to do. At long last someone sat an actually listened, rather than just a hurried 10 minute in and out job.

So yay for physios!

I think if we all had more general access to physios there would be a lot less people walking around with chronic injuries. It seems crazy that you are not routinely referred to a physio when you twist, sprain, pull or break something.

I saw the nurse at my practice last week, the dr and hospital offered me nothing. I was given an airboot and discharged when I broke the bone in my foot, it was the nurse who recommended the physio.

Although I was told that the waiting list is long and an appointment would take ages. So we were looking into me going private and then last night I got a call to ask me to attend today!

I too have got plantar faciitis and it is getting worse and worse
Hurts now even walking to school and back.
Running and netball becoming impossible.

Was the physio good for advice about the plantar facitiis too?

I have private healthcare, but I guess I would have to get a referral from my own GP?

Yes you would unless you can go privately. He gave me a leaflet on pf, will quickly type the main parts for you.

Stretching and Massage
Regular calf stretches will help relieve pain and help to prevent further episodes of pain. Massaging your foot across the width of the plantar fasica, before getting out of bed helps to lessen the pain from standing.

Ice
Using ice on your heel after exercising, stretching and working can help prevent inflammation. £/4 full a 500ml fizzy drinks bottle (plastic) with water then freeze it. Roll the foot over the waist of the bottle and hold it on the painful area - daily for 10 mins.

Supportive insoles or orthotics
Wearing supports in your shoes every day will gently support the foot and help to reduce the amount of pull that the painful plantar fascia is under

Supportive Shoes
A shoe that fits your foot shape and fastens securely is an important part of your treatment plan.

Hope that helps!
