Falling asleep.. (zzzzzzzzz)

I KEEP having huge trouble falling asleep. It can take hours, and also if I wake in the night (if dd squawks) than I am in danger of being completely unable to get back to sleep, either.

It's made worse by the fact that I worry about not being able to fall asleep.

Sometimes it's because I think about things which bother me - not always though.

Tips?

I have this problem sometimes too, and it's not always because I'm worrying about things, which is even more frustrating. Especially now DD is sometimes sleeping through but I'm not!

Some small tips:

Keep a notepad to write down things which are worrying you (haven't tried this myself, but have heard lots of other people do it).

Sniff lavendar oil (eg keep a tissue with lavendar oil on it under your pillow) - definitely helps

Do a little bit of yoga before bed (eg 15 mins) - I am a yoga novice but a bit of breathing and stretching seems to help

Have DH /DP read you a bedtime story in a soporific voice. I know this sounds bonkers but it actually works! We have tried both children's stories and stories aimed for grown ups (as long as they're not too depressing / serious / scary).

Good luck with dropping off - it's so frustrating, isn't it.

THanks so much for the tips, Wigeon. I'll definitely try the lavender, and see if I can persuade dh to read to me! I'll try the breathing and stretching, too.
