when would you go to your GP with a sore gland in your neck?

My neck has been sore on one side for over a month and I can feel that it's swollen. It hurts when I touch it and also when I turn my head. I thought it was probably just a virus, so no point in seeing a doctor, but it has gone on for a bit longer than these things usually do. Should I hang on a bit longer?

Oh weird, I've had the same thing for about 3 weeks now. But someone told me she'd had it as well so I assumed it was a virus.

I think I'd go faster if it was swollen but not sore.

Another thought do you have some sort of mild infection anywhere on that side e.g. a slightly infected cut - that can cause something like that apparently.

I'd probably go quite soon actually if it didn't start to feel any better.

I'll give it another week. It's weird, I don't have a sore throat or a cold or any infection that I'm aware of.

I had this, it turned out to be a blocked salivary gland - it unblocked itself, or went away. Its very common apparently. Is it worse after you have eaten? Mine was really sore.

I think it's just a weird virus that's lasting forever. Today my entire body aches like I have been on a 10 mile run!

I'll just wait for it to go away.

Beansmum - if you really have had a sore neck for a month I would deffo go to your GP, sooner rather than later!!! The good news is that if it hurts its probably not serious, but it should be looked at. As someone who sat in an ICU over Christmas/New Year with a ds with similar symptoms I think I should know . Please go; no one will shoot you for getting it checked out.

I'll go next week. Called my dad (a GP) and he says it's probably a virus and will get better eventually. I might as well get it checked though, especially now I am actually feeling quite crap, achey and sweaty and tired. Hope it's not glandular fever!
