25 Mth DS Stopped Walking

He had a couple of falls 8 and 6 weeks ago. Was walking but slower. Took him to the GP 3 weeks ago as hadn't fully recovered and she said to watch and wait for 4 - 6 weeks then I took him back a week ago after he stopped walking, who referred me to the hospital who then did full bloods, CT scan, scan of abdomen, x rays of left foot and hips. Everything coming back negative. When he does try to walk he has pain. It's difficult to pin point. May have x rayed the wrong foot! Otherwise healthy and developmentally unremarkable. Crawling, climbing, bottom shuffling and active. Although he does have Tonsillitis now! Yesterday he was examined by a Pediatric Neurologist who doesn't believe it is a neurological disorder. He thinks it's tissue damage from the fall or synovitis from a virus. Apparently his senior thinks it might still be neurological although there are no symptoms. Possible cerebellitis affecting balance. Doesn't seem like any of the Drs have much idea and are stabbing in the dark. They did say that they would MRI the feet if it doesn't resolve. Anyone had similar experience? Worried and so confused.

Poor you, no advice but just want to not say anything.
Its good that the doctors/consultant are on to it and Im sure they will find the right treatment soon.

My ds complained of severe leg pains for years, which resolved on going gluten free. Mad as it sounds, you can have neurological symptoms associated with gluten sensitivity.
Hope you find the answer.

I knew a little boy who had something similar following an innoculation aged 4. It took the hospital ages to work out what had caused the porblem and even longer for the treatment to work. He fully recovered though.
I don't think it was the MMR but it was one of the standard ones.
How old is your DS?

sorry just re-read title. he is 25 months. So can't be the same thing as the little boy I knew

Well he seems to be making some slow progress. He did a little walking yesterday. Drs now happy to assume a tissue injury based on absence of sinister symptoms or deterioration. They say he may take some time to get back to what he was like before down to his fear of the pain. What an awful experience it's been!

I just wanted to post an update here. It turns out he has Cerebellitis, sometimes known as acute cerebellar atxia. Basically after a cold or tummy bug the virus rested in his cerebellum, which is the part of the brain that coordinates the muscles. His immune system attacked the virus and in the process his cerebellum became inflammed and it's this temporary inflammation that's caused the inability to walk and balance. He's getting better slowly and this can take over 6 months to resolve. It's not common and it's been difficult finding other parents experiences on the internet so I wanted to add a post here in case anyone finds this while googling.

I know this was a number of years ago now but I just wanted to know what symptoms your little one had as I'm really concerned about my daughter and hospital aren't taking it seriously
