BUMP BUMP BUMP

Someone out there must have the willpower to quit! Come on!

Hulan Mon 08-Sep-08 14:45:47

Hi mamadiva. I quit last Monday but had one fag last night, so I'm back to square one. I'll join you if I may

Portofino Mon 08-Sep-08 14:49:54

I want to join in - I think. I'm on holiday in a couple of weeks for my 40th birthday shock and have vowed to myself that at 40 I would stop. Moral support would be much appreciated!

Fantastic hello! Well done to all of you for deciding to quit just need somewhere I can chat through cravings LOL.

I stopped smoking in 2005 when I found out I was pregnant then started again in March of this years o hopefully won't be too bad this time.

It's been 17 hours since my last fag, am not using oatches etc because I think that would prolong the cravings.

I also quit in 2005 when pg but then when DS was 6 weeks old I dropped him and immediately went out and bought a packet of fags. The time is right for me to quit now because I would like to start ttc in the next six months or so

Hulan Mon 08-Sep-08 15:11:28

Oh and am also not using patches. Tis very expensive and quite right, they do just prolong the agony

2beornot2be Mon 08-Sep-08 15:11:38

Yep yep quitting tomorrow no more smoking for me its going to kill me but I am determined to do it

Mamadiva i got a crafe away smokeless cigarette from the chemist I hope it helps I let you know

mamadiva Mon 08-Sep-08 15:29:14

Yeah I hope you do well, we should all come on here when we can and update our progress! If we see it in writing it might keep us motivated IYKWIM.

That website is horrid when you read the stories!

Can I join in readiness. I am planning to quit on 8th October, (day after my birthday)
I quit 5 years ago and started again earlier this year in a stressful time.
Last time I gave up with reasons( turning 30 ,wanting TTC, new job) and I never got past the but I can always have one if I want.

This time I am quitting because I want not to smoke and no other reason. Hopefully not having reasons for giving up for , which I can go back on I will kick the habit forever.

Last time I went cold turkey and it was ok, just drank a glass of water everytime I wanted a fag.
But now you can get 6 weeks of nicotine patches for one prescription price from the chemist, so might give it a whirl

Good luck to all, And will be back to join you in a monthgrin

FiveGoMadInDorset Mon 08-Sep-08 15:41:23

Good luck all, I have been fag free for 10 months 1 week and 3 days and my god everything is better, health and bank balance, we have bought a new car and going on holiday on the strength of giving up so good luck.

mamadiva Mon 08-Sep-08 15:41:49

mamadiva Mon 08-Sep-08 15:43:30

Well done 5gomad I remember that feeling LOL. I just agve in because I went back to work in a stressful job and was out drinking with some friends which TBH I always had problems with any tips on overcoming that?

FiveGoMadInDorset Mon 08-Sep-08 15:49:30

I gave up with help of hypnotherapy was the only thing that did work, however I do think this is a good time of year to quit as the weather is not condusive to sitting outside smoking, that helped as well.

2beornot2be Mon 08-Sep-08 15:50:45

Yep writing it down will be great least we will all be miserable bitches together!

How are you finding it mamadiva are you using anything to supplement the Nicotine

mamadiva Mon 08-Sep-08 16:03:57

Food! LOL no so far I haven't had anything but have a pack of chewing gum at the ready LOL.

2beornot2be Mon 08-Sep-08 17:27:02

LOL Ok well My best friend laughed at me when I told her I was quitting she thinks i wont be able to so that has given me a boost to prove her wrong lol, Alot of people do eat more when they quit I heard :-/

mamadiva Mon 08-Sep-08 20:35:32

yeah it does but I used sugarfree lollies, pens to chew and chewing gum seems to get me by!

Don't listne to your friend if she smokes shes just jealous that you are trying to give it up. If not shes just being spiteful LOL

MrsSnorty Mon 08-Sep-08 20:40:50

Has anyone tried acupuncture? It's the one thing I haven't tried yet so thinking of giving it a go. I'm in by the way - will have to set date now <quivers>

mamadiva Mon 08-Sep-08 21:16:55

I've been off it officially now for 24 hours, last fag at 9pm last night!

norksinmywaistband Mon 08-Sep-08 21:20:48

<pats mamadiva on the back>
Congratulations, apparantly if you make it to 3 days cold turkey the nicotine is out of your system and its only the habit you have to break, keep strong, you can do this.
I need your insipration and support soon

mamadiva Tue 09-Sep-08 08:12:42

How is everyone today? You all ready to give up those nasty nicotine sticks?

This morning was tough I really want a fag with my cup of tea , you wouldn't think I was 21 would you LOL. I spent about half an hour coughing up gumf(technical term of course), excuse the foulness of that just a warning, apparently it's the crap in your lungs starting to break up and come out. Euck that was in my lungs. blush

Good Luck all of you who are quitting today! Oh and I'm taking my DS swimming today with the money I normally spend on fags! So much better knowing I can do something fun with him rather than buy fags!
