Are you having a panic attack? They're pretty common, quite unpleasant, but not actually life threatening. Are you under stress?

Go to the docs it isn't a heart attack but your heart can go in to abnormal rhythms for various reasons best get it checked out.Do you feel ok otherwise?

There are lots of possible things that have these symptoms but you need to go to the docs so they can work out what it is.

I have had the same problem over the past few months and have now got it under control. However I had a lot of tests and had to see a cardiologist in order to work down the list of possibilities

Several of the people who have posted on here have heart conditions, myself included, it sounds very minor, but in the absence of an OLOGY you need to go to the doctor.

Ok I know I have just dated myself with the refence to the ology

I know how alarming extra beats can be, but from what you've described it sounds like an ectopic beat, 2 beats at a go. These symptoms can come in clusters for days, weeks and then just suddenly go. Its very common and can be caused by anxiety, caffeine, alcohol. But I'm no doctor and like everyone has said its wise to get it checked out, I just don't what you worrying needlessly.

I have this a fair bit. My heart rate is naturally pretty fast and every so often I have palpatations which can last anything from a few seconds to several minutes - longer at times. They are not panic attacks though. I have seen my GP and a consultant about them, and has spent itme in hospital and out being monitored. However, despite having these for a few years now, they have concluded that there is no abnormality discovered and tthat it is just the way my body is. Whilst things like stress and alcohol can make it worse, it isn't the cause - cause is unknown. And it isn't panic, as I mentioned before.

But it also isn't harmful, The consultant said my heart could keep that speed up (rises to around 250bpm, and even almost 300 beats a minute at times!!!) for several hours - around 2 days before it was be serious to my heart.

However, I would go and see your GP. Have it investigated to rule out anything more serious, but also don't be suprised if they find nothing - other than some form of tachycardia or arrythemia that isn't a concern to them.

Forget to say - with mine I don't feel breathless with them. If they last a long time it can make me a little dizzy/faint, and the pounding can become uncomfortable.. And it can make me feel very tired for a good while afterwards.

Thanks hula,
Don't feel tired, faint, dizzy.. Just last for 2 sec and gone .. I have booked the doctor for Monday evening for a check up.. It won't do any harm..

If just for a very short time then it is unlikely for you to feel dizzy or faint I should think - as it is over almost as quick as it starts, and your body doesn't have time to react to it. I only get faint/dizzy after a few minutes of it.

See what your GP has to say.
