i've had my mirena coil in for about 18 months....i am pyschopathic with it....evil mood swings, depression, NO sex drive, pathchy periods, etc...its just not doing me any good.....

has anyone had theirs removed for the same reasons, and feel better for it??

what contraception do you use instead...can't afford any "accidents"

any comments most welcome.

I had one for a year and it was just awful.

I'm now on the pill and 'tricycle'. It's wonderful.

I have a Mirena in, and have had so for the past four years.

It has been wonderful. I know that it has not agreed with a lot of people, but I have felt great.

You could be me, mellyonion. But add acne and weight gain. Had it removed and all symptoms disappeared. Felt so much better!

Dh has had a vasectomy

I had mine removed after 2.5 years for the same reason as you. Dh said I was a different person after about a week.
When I had it taken out we decided ttc but I have now been sterilized which I wouldn't recomend to anyone [painful smiley]

I struggled with it for a year. I asked for it to be removed, but was poo-pooed, saying I should give it time etc. But after a year of feeling 'tender and irritated', I insisted. Feel much, much better since.

oh blimey.....looks like it'll be coming out then....

i just feel like i can't go on...i'm not living some days...just surviving, moment by moment...fine one minute, then completely exploding the next...i was never like this before, but i REALLY don't want to get pg....and the snip for dh is just too final at the minute.
i'm glad i'm not alone...thanks.

I had mine removed last thursday after 3 years.

Don't feel any different yet, although i think my sex drive may be trying to return as I've had some stirings . Am hoping that I drop a stone and become as hormonally happy as I was when I was pg [hopeful]

You sound similar to me melly onion, cripling pms, to the point where dr thought I try ad's which I wasn't happy about.

not sure what we're going to do for contraception, hormonal are ones out (due to psychotic behaviour), I used the persona for 6 years before having ds, but don't want to go back to peeing on a stick every month and def don't want to get pg.
I can't use a cap as my cervix is too high and I never got the bloody thing over it properly. So could be condoms for a while.

I will probably have a copper coil fitted at some point, but I'm going to let my body get back to normal first.

Melly onion, this sounds exactely like me. I had my mirena taken out last year and feel loads better. Have a copper coil in now and although i have heavy periods it is much better. The doctors i spoke to about the mirena couldn't speak highly enough of it and i guess it works for some women but i can't seem to handle anything that has any hormones in it.

how is it removed? is it just a case of tugging on the strings or is there complicated equipment involved?

hi goingmad....i think it must come out the same way as it goes in, with one of those speculum thingies they use with a smear....

wish i could give it a yank and get it out!!!
