Do you let your baby eat paper?

DD adores ripping up magazines, but quite a lot of the paper seems to end up in her mouth sooner or later. I've read that magazine and newspaper print is toxic, so should I put a stop to her fun? Or just keep her intake to a minimum?!

My Ds used to do this and still does ocasionally. His fave is bus tickets and he has usually eaten the lot before i notice.

I don't let him eat it but if he gets the odd bit in i don't panic about it.

I've no idea re the toxicity of newpaper print, but perhaps it would be good to curb her passion for paper digestion a little. Just to be on the safe side !

I try and stop her but she does sometimes manage to get some down. I let her rip it and then try to get it off her when I see it heading towards the mouth

The ink is toxic, but I doubt that a baby could eat enough to make themselves ill. That said, I wouldn't let the baby just get on with it - the paper alone could give her a blockage! I would be inclined only to let her rip under supervision so that you can keep the intake to minimum. If you see that the ink marks her at all, take it away at once because I think that 'loose' inks are more likely to be absorbed than ink which are well-fixed to teh paper.

I think I read somewhere that the Financial Times is the only paper with non-toxic ink.
