Sorry - definately TMI but I need to talk about thrush and sex

I have been having fairly regular bouts of thrush ever since I had my last baby 5 years ago. I have been to the GP and the last time she suggested I take probiotics and make a note of at what stage in my cycle it happens.

The difficulty is that it often occurs within a day or two of having sex. Like lots of married couples we aren't at it all the time, but I do think we are lucky in that when we do get around to it we have a great time. In fact our sex life has been getting better and better as time goes on, but I pay for it with days of discomfort. I don't really understand why there's a connection between sex and thrush - it's not as if dh is being rough with me. This last time was so sore and I was even slightly bleeding (I did say it'd be tmi!).

What can I do and why does it happen after sex?

maybe your DH has it too - the trick is to lay off for a while and wait for it to clear up completely and then see what happens - also look at your diet because this can make things worse.

When I get it, I make sure I cut out all yeasty type stuff, iron my pants and his too (to kill any potentional bugs)and get him to put on canesten too.

Sounds like dh has it too, and is passing it back to you. It is often symptomless in men, so it's possible he won't have noticed.

Get him to treat himself with Canesten cream, and make sure you are also treated - otherwise you will just carry on passing it backwards and forwards.

I never thought there'd be a day when I'd consider ironing my undies! I will get him to use canesten - can men take the tablet too? I did ask him to use the cream before and I suspect he forgot a lot of the time, which I guess if it's not you whose sore it's easy to do.
