Tooth extraction is it meant to hurt this much 2 days after the extraction?

I had a lower molar removed on Sunday by the emergency dentist. He had difficulty getting it out as it was quite strong despite being rotten on one side but eventually he managed it and it came out whole. It didn't hurt much on Sunday, hurt a bit yesterday and I took paracetemol and rinsed with salt water but today my face is slightly swollen and it's hurting. It's not as painful as the toothache but feels very bruised and I can't smile or say certain words properly. I'm also 31 weeks pregnant so could really do without this at th moment.

Oh I do sympathise! Dental pain is awful and doesn't respond well to any analgesia.
The possibilities are either that there is an infection starting, or you have "dry socket" syndrome.
Either way, you need to consult a dentist ASAP.
Good luck!

Thank you. I can't see a dentist this afternoon as I have to pick up dd and my friend's dd from school. Also the dentist I saw was quite far away and I can't drive so will have to wait till dp comes home from work and see the emergency dentist again. I have just rinsed with salt water and it's helped a bit so i'm hoping it may just go away...

Hmm jus had a look at it in the mirror and down the side of the socket (not in it) where they gave the injection in between my tooth and my cheek iyswim there is a very long ulcer type thing and this is what is causing me the pain so I guess i'll just keep up with the salt water rinses and paracetemol.

Goodness, must have been a real struggle to extract! Yes sounds like the salt water rinses are a good idea and give it a day or two.
