Wisdom tooth extraction

Hi,
I got my bottom right wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago and the dentist said I could eat normal food (but nothing extremely hard) but every time I try, I keep biting my cheek and it's quite painful. Has anyone experienced the same? Is this because of swelling or is this a permanent problem I am going to have now???
