Help Please...weird looking bruise on dd's side!

Whilst dd (9) was getting ready for bed tonight, I noticed a bruise on her side, just above her hip. I asked her how on earth she had done it and she was quite shocked when she saw it and said she had no idea!

I've never seen a bruise like it though - its about an inch in length and kind of like a stretched circle. Bright purple around the outside and then bright red in the middle. It actually looks as though there is blood lying just under the skin.

Does anybody know what this could be? She says it doesnt hurt at all and cant remember banging her side on anything - so what could it be? Should I take her to the GP tomorrow?

Any advice would be appreciated.

TIA

As one who is frequently covered in enormous bruises which I have no recollection of getting I would suggest its probably nothing to worry about. Some people just bruise really easily. Take her to the doctors though if you're concerned. It can't hurt can it.

thanks ellehcim, I was just concerned because I've never seen a bruise like it! It looks more like a huge blood blister with bruising around the outside

She is always covered in bruises anyway usually from playing football at school but never anything like this.

Sorry, my response wasn't that helpful was it. Not sure where all the health professionals are tonight. I've posted a health question too and had no response.
Take her to the doctors. It will relieve your concern and they are paid an extortionate amount of money so you might as well get some use out of them!

i think the red bit in the middle of it would signal she banged herself on something pointy IYSWIM eg, maybe a tree branch?

Sorry went to bed last night before I saw your responses.

Ive had a look this morning and its settled down a bit - not so red in the middle, more a deep purple and black.

I cant get an appointment at the doctors today (surprise, surprise!) so I'm going to keep an eye on it over the weekend and hopefully it will clear up by Monday!
