Found a lump under armpit...worried

Willow4987 · 18/07/2020 23:07

So for the last few days both armpits have felt sore. The right one feels worse and more swollen

I’ve just now found 3 lumps, one in the site of an old mole I had removed about 10 years ago

There’s no rash that I can see anywhere

Trying not to think the worst but calling the GP on Monday

Am I right to be worried? I don’t want to worry DH yet as he’s a massive hypochondriac and I can’t be dealing with his worried looks until the GP says to worry

It could be swollen glands. Definitely get it checked on Monday though.

You won’t be wasting anyone’s time by checking. I had one for years and it was a blocked hair follicle so they’re not all sinister but only a doctor can tell you. Does it move when you touch it?

@ConiferGate no it doesn’t really move but I’m not pressing very hard as it’s sore. Maybe it would if a doctor did it, I don’t know.

I’ll ring on Monday and hope for the best. Hopefully they’ll actually see me

Get it checked out for peace of mind.
I've had what you've described though and it's always been swollen glands. I also find I get them if I don't be do

Sorry, pressed send too soon.
*I also find I get them from a build up of deodorant if I don't exfoliate under my arms with a sponge when I wash.

I’m sure they will see you, or at least give you a referral to a dermatologist or whoever you need to see. Good luck, you’re doing the right thing

Here to provide some reassurance!

Cancer isn't, in a majority of cases, sore or painful. Lumps that are sore or painful are more often than not a 'good' thing.

Head straight to the docs on Monday and don't let them fob you off with no face to face appointment. Get yourself seen.

I'd definitely get it checked out if it's new for you. But it can be a relatively harmless thing, I've had lumps like this a lot. And also in my groin area. Sometimes it seems to be one large lump but the way it forms makes it feel like several small ones for some reason. I don't always have them but have on and off since I was a teenager. Sometimes they're painful but not always. Made worse by shaving and deodorant I think. Infected hair follicles or ingrown hairs. One on my lower tummy got badly infected once and I had to have an op.

I had one years ago and went to GP, she thought it was a swollen lymph. It was worse/painful when I was due on but palpable all month round. It's still there but I am now post menopause and it isn't ever painful.

Thanks everyone. I’ll ring them first thing tomorrow and hopefully they’ll let me go in. They normally do so fingers crossed

I personally wouldn't worry about a lump under the arm that was sore to the touch as it's probably a swollen lymph node. You can get them from shaving under your arms with a razor even. I get them now and again and after a few days they go down.

I personally would wait a few days and then if they are still there make an appointment.

I'd be more concerned if there was a lump that wasn't sore.
