Really scared I have MS

I am late 40s and in general I would say I am healthy and fit. But I have suddenly developed a strange symptom - I get this weird tingling feeling above one of my ankles. It started about a week ago and I have had it everyday since. Mainly in the evening - I have it for a few seconds and then it stops and goes away. Tonight it keeps coming back. It’s not pain - just a weird feeling. Does it sound like it could be MS? Too much googling...

I need to see a GP but not sure anyone will see me at the moment or take me seriously.

That sounds a lot more like some sort of sciatic/nerve compression thing.

It's unlikely to be MS, although I really do feel for you because I am always thinking I have MS or ALS , I have health anxiety.

The dr told me that MS nearly always begins with visual disturbances. How are your eyes?

In all honesty, OP, it could be a number of things. Most likely a trapped nerve or some kind of strain putting pressure on a nerve which gets worse as your muscles/posture tires towards the end of the day.
Please step away from google. I’ve been there too many times myself and got worked into a right state over a symptom or two that had a much more benign explanation that the ones I was imagining.
I completely get how you’re feeling right now.
If you’re desperate for medical advice there are on-line GP service that you could contact. Or ask for a telephone appointment with your own GP.
In the meantime, be kind to yourself. But also stop googling Wink

I had tingling in my fingers and toes, my face went numb, my memory was suddenly shocking and I was exhausted. I was terrified about it being MS. Turns out It was a vitamin B12 & Vitamin D deficiency but I do understand how worrying it is to be thinking about having MS.
Most drs are doing telephone consultations and are still ordering any blood tests they need, just phone your surgery tomorrow for an appointment and discuss your concerns.

Thank you so much to you all for reassuring me! I always think the worst. My eyes are fine and maybe it is a compressed nerve... I have been running everyday since the start of lockdown (normally would be only nice a week) so it could be that...

I think phone your dr and see what they think, try not to google - the trouble with ms (I have it!) is that where your nerves are affected just about any strange feeling COULD be ms, but it crosses over with so many other conditions. yes like a pp said it often starts with visual problems but not always (mine didn’t).
But anyway, call your drs - my friend has had a Mri and other tests for pos ms recently and just waiting on results from a lumber puncture so tests are still being carried out. Best wishes.

Hi OP,

Sorry you are going through this. FWIW, I have MS and my (and other people I know) symptoms very rarely come and go that quickly. It sounds like a nerve thing, which could have a lot of causes! But talk to your GP and ask for a neurology referral if it is worrying you a lot - it can be diagnosed via a MRI and they get back to you quickly (in normal circumstances) with results.

I would say it's most likely to be a compressed nerve or a vitamin deficiency- Vit D or Vit B12.

HI OP, I think it's unlikely it's MS if that is your only symptom.

You can get GP appointments - I've had several during lockdown. In fact, I have found that the GP is less busy than usual. Last week, I had 25 minute call with the GP for something she dealt with in the first 5 minutes.

I have MS and no eyesight problems. I do have pins and needles in one leg but I have a lot of other symptoms too.

I have had tingling or pins and needles in my arms and legs before having MS and it was solved with a sports massage. What can happen is that the muscles in your back can press on a nerve.
