Only found out this afternoon they can take ds's tonsils & adeniods out tomorrow. Will be overnight stay and I will stay with him.

I dont know what to take with us tho. My list so far is

Ds:
Pyjamas (long and short as dont know how hot/cold will be)
Favourite Teddy
Toothbrush
Brave boy present (ps2 game for home and 2 astrosaur books)
Clean boxers
Clean socks
Top trumps
Nintendo ds?? (not sure as could get nicked?)

Me (26 weeks preg):
PJ's
Ear plugs
Eye Mask
Clean underwear & socks
Toothbrush & toothpaste
Shower gel
Deodrant
(going to wear same clothes as only overnight)
Book

I am soooo disorganised!

Also will the bunny be ok if i top up food & water in the morning? He will be left overnight.

Snacks and drinks for both of you (don't know what is suitable for after toncils), but I found it much nicer (and cheaper) than the hospital shop at Alder Hey

How old is DS?

Dressing gown, slippers and knickers for you. Money so DS can watch TV. What about some squash or juice for both of you? I expect he is going to have a sore throat so probably won't want anything to drink if swallowing is sore.

take a pillow for yourself as pillows in hospital are always completely flat.

flip flops or slippers for you

money to buy food etc

sweets or biscuits etc

there are loads of games and DVDs etc in children's wards - bound to be something there if you don't want to risk his own stuff

Take some sandwiches because I don't think you will get fed. They usually have somewhere you can make drinks and toast.

Also take a dressing-gown as you will probably be on one of those chair beds on the ward.

Comics for DS, and a book you can read to him.

Good luck to you and your DS!!

shhh - your duvet!! wouldnt that take up alot of room (very tempted too tho ).

Should I take his blanket too? (and my fleecy one)

I am a nurse myself (although not working atm). Remember the ear plugs and eye mask came in super handy on the night shift!

IME hospitals are always very hot so you probably won't need a duvet! I just had a sheet when I was in with DS2. He just had a 1 tog sleeping bag and I only took that to make him feel at home!

Take a magazine or book just in case some waiting around.
Good luck and hope it goes well. Will think of you xx

Awen - nothing to add to the list, just lots of luck and let us know how it goes.

yup I took my duvet for comfort ! I slept in one of those "lazy" chairs and managed some sleep!
When I was in with ds in april it got so cold at night but it was much wamer this time, I still used my duvet though! Just in case I ended up showing bits of me I would rather not.!! BTW it fitted into my tesco hessian bag for life !

Will get him magazine there as on my own (dp in Japan) so cant pop out.

Chair bed sounds very uncomfortable. Finding it hard enough to get comfy at night anyway. Thought about being cheeky and asking for a side room (especially as one of the pregnancy side effects is wind )

Should really get myself off here and go and pack. Just watching silent witness tho and waitng for Eastenders [saddo emocion]

Good luck for tomorrow

The only other thing I would add (though you are probably gone) is that if there is anything that would entertain him that is not too much effort for him, that would be good - DS2 was always really knackered after GA, and really enjoyed having a personal CD player to listen to. Also they quite often have DVD/Video players in childrens wards, so if there is a favourite film you could take that

MorocconOil · 24/09/2007 22:22

I meant one of those lazybeds. It was very uncomfortable and kept folding up whenever I moved. TBH I didn't mind being awake as DS was a bit restless when he was coming around from the GA, and I lay on his bed and cuddled him.
