Indigestion or....?

Hi! I’m not sure how much traffic this forum gets, but it seems the most apt place to ask.

I’ve been getting sharp chest pains which feel like indigestion (suffered a lot when I was pregnant) accompanied by burping etc so I know that’s what it is.

However, I’ve been getting bouts a couple of times a month. They start late at night or in the middle of the night- today’s bout is still going strong and started at about 3.00am. I get body aches with it, too, like with the flu, and today I’ve been sweating and shivering as well as feeling just generally horrendous.

Does anyone have any ideas, before I ring the gp?

Thank you!

If I have indigestion then it is accompanied by palpitations- it's weird but for me it is normal and the palpitations make me sweat.
In case of indigestion my first line of defence is always coke (normal or diet though I prefer normal- coke has same pH as stomach acid so if any leftover food in your stomach is causing issue then it will get rid of it. It also dissolve blockages in your digestive system. Even if your other indigestion medicine are not working then have a glass of coke.
Indigestion is mostly caused by eating wrong combination of food or food allergies. Since you are having indigestion quite regularly then you would have found out if it was something to do with food.
Are you on any medication, even OTC. Some medicine are anticholinergic which means the food in your system will stay for longer and will cause indigestion. One example is antihistamine used in actifed. Look at medicine you are taking.
Another reason could be hay fever. Most people with hay fever don't get digestive issues. But some unlucky people like me get post nasal drip and the excess mucus dripping down my throat cause indigestion. Hay fever also gives flu like symptoms.
Try a coke for today and next time keep a diary and see what triggered your symptoms.
And if you are too worried then call your GP.

Sounds a bit like gallstones. Is the pain in the upper right quadrant? It's pretty common for the gallbladder to play up late at night or early hours of the morning. I also veered between shivering and sweating when mine was playing up. Do you have any nausea with it? One of my worst attacks had me vomiting and diarrhoea at the same time. All I can suggest is a trip to the gp who will send you for an ultrasound and blood tests to confirm. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you so much for the replies! The pain was more in my chest then moved down to my stomach- I tried drinking Coke and it made me feel worse! Maybe I’ll look into gallbladder and call the gp. Thanks again 😊
