Hi,

DD3 is just recovering from a stinking cold and as predicted the herpes seems to have roared its ugly face again. ATM she has just one sore on teh inside of her lip. In your expereince will it be just the one? Does she need treatment.

Everything I find suggests this is likely to be it? Ishat what you have found?

Thanks

Your Slugglyness

Hiya - Yup, just one or two, nothing at all like before. I stamped my feet for treatment and they sent me away , I got it, erm, somehow, but it wasn't needed.

Good luck! DS gets them a week after an illness (so we should have one next week... wonder if nursery will complain)

TY.

Thats reassuring. I won't worry about it for now.

Interestingly I knew it was coming because of the distinctive bad breath. If it does turn out to be a bad attack I shall just use future bad breath as an indication to get to the GP .

Please DR, can I have acyclovir cos DD3 has halitosis??? I can see that going down well (not!!!!)

I use Zovirax and it is great - can kids use it?

It is not suitable for internal use (i.e in mouth) - it would have to be oral, which would have to be prescribed. Zovirax is the brand name for acyclovir. Don't know if OTC product is suitable for under 2s but it can be prescribed.

Hi slightlymadsweden, I have been suffering with cold sores for years and have treated then with Zovirax, until I worked out that Zovirax was actually making them worse, the coldsore would end up all accross one side of my mouth, but maybe that's just me and I have an allergy to it! since then I have been using Blistease on myself and my 2 dc's and I have to say have had a much faster recovery time. Last year a friend of mine who is a docter, reccommended that I try this new machine that was great at halting the breakout of cold sores and indeed in treating them. so I thought to myself maybe I should give it a go as it was a doctor who recommeded it to me. Lo and behold in the last nine months I have had 3 coldsores 2 of which went within hours of treatment with the new machine, and another one which cleared up after two days. For me this is very very rare and I am now the biggest fan of this new machine, their website is www.vcs.eu.com , on the other hand I would say that over the counter stuff like Zovirax is in general too strong for children. Mine do fine on Blistease.

Hope this helps, good luck
