Got any orange juice? Bananas work quickly too

Give that a go then. What usually works for you?

do you have any glucose tablets? Failing that, a big handful of raisins? I had a couple of scary hypos when I had GD when expecting ds1 and glucose tablets worked for me, followed by something which gives a slower release of sugars, like bananas.

If it doesn't work and you are still feeling groggy, could you phone NHS direct or even an ambulance?

dissolve sugar in hot water

or honey

Report
saltire · 18/09/2007 17:46

Honey on toast is good, and if all else fails, sugar in water - or tea

That is very low. Do you have glucose tablets in the house? If not i suggest you keep some with you from now on.

sparklygothkat · 18/09/2007 17:47

no glulose tablets here, I will get some.

3.2 is not dangerous AFAIK (DON't quote me, I'm not an expert at all!) - Can you give yourself half an hour, checking every 10 minutes?

sparklygothkat · 18/09/2007 17:49

am about to eat my dinner, so hope that it bring it back up

Just be aware that the hypostop will take a while to hit your bloodstream, although it does hit very fast, so I would be wary of introducing TOO much sugar into your body while you are waiting

Just spoken to my diabetic nurse freind

She says that long acting carbs needed

have some warm water and sugar plus a sandwich

Test your blood sugar every 15 mins

if it not back up after the second test then call an ambulance

Report
dustystar · 18/09/2007 17:53

She also says to tell you that if your blood sugars are running high tomorrow morning then not to worry as this often happens after you have a hypo.

ok, 3.2 will make you feel funny (& you certainly shouldn't drive), but you aren't in immediate danger. fruit juice works really quickly to raise blood sugar.

My mum always tells me that at her work (shes a nurse), they use fruit juice when their patients blood sugars drop.
The cheaper the stuff the better apparently too.
