What to do about DD's ankle?

DD(14) hurt her ankle at the end of December. We treated it with RICE (resting as much as possible - the only thing she was doing was 15 minutes walk to and from school and walking round school). Every day when she got home from school she was in a lot of pain and basically ended up sitting with her foot up and ice on it.

Took her to the GP at the end of February who said due to lack of swelling it was most likely soft tissue damage and there was not a lot he could do. She was referred to orthopaedics. Her appointment was the end of June, but who knows now.

Since schools closed 2.5 weeks ago DD has done nothing but walk round the house. We attempted a short walk but her foot was sore after 5 minutes so abandoned that. We discovered she could cycle quite well one footed so have been going out for short cycle rides 2 or 3 times a week.
Today we went on a slightly longer one (I'm talking 15 minutes in total , not miles!) and she is again saying her foot is really painful.

I'm really concerned that it's not healing and she's says there is pretty much always a dull pain. In normal times I would perhaps go back to GP to try to get her ortho appointment moved forward, but don't know what is the best thing for now?

Was it ever xrayed in case there was a fracture. Is the pain in her foot or ankle

Never x-rayed - the GP seemed to think lack of swelling and the position of the pain (sort of round her ankle) ruled out a fracture.
She's suffered from recurring ankle sprains over several years- usually a few weeks' rest sorts them out.

I got an X-ray for my son’s wrist last Friday, worth asking...

Does “ortho” mean orthopaedic surgeon?
If so they are experts on operations....
If X-ray is clear, I think she needs a physical therapist (a good physio, osteopath or podiatrist)

I'm no medical expert but I've fractured my wrist in the same place 3 times and not once did it swell, if it hadn't have been that the first time was at school, my mum wouldn't have taken me to hospital because it didn't swell, she assumed that it was just bruised but my school seriously suggested she take me to a&e. I had a scan and nothing showed up until I had a second scan 2 weeks later.

I sprained my toes and fractured my big toes in two separate but close together incidents. The fracture I barely noticed but the soft tissue damage took months to heal. I limped for about 8 months. The hospital discovered the mostly healed fracture when I pushed for investigation into the other injury that caused the soft tissue damage.
I also broke my ankle when I was a child. There is no mistaking that pain for anything else.
That's just my experience but you could miss a fracture in a non weight bearing area but they can heal more easily that soft tissue damage.. that is a complete bitch and takes ages to heal.

My daughter fractured her ankle by rolling it inwards on a trampoline - it didn't really swell and the pain was around the outer ankle bone but pretty non-descript. I would try and get a phone GP appointment and ask them to refer you for an x-ray - tell them she is having problems weight bearing
