Mucus when passing wind

I have name changed for this I’m absolutely mortified. Today, twice I have farted and a small amount of mucusy poo has came out. No pain or warning!!

I’ve eaten 2 satsumas and finished a course of flucloxicillin last Thursday. That’s pretty much the only change to my diet I can think of.

I’ve suspected for a while I am entering peri menopause could this cause this? I’ve also been quite anxious and stressed which always happens at this time of year and can sometimes cause a dodgy tum.

Any help appreciated

I pass mucus very rarely but I have been diagnosed with IBS. Any chance you have that? The dodgy tum with anxiety is somewhat suggestive that you might have IBS too. The mucus thing for me only started a few years ago although I reckon I have had IBS since childhood, and I am post menopausal, but I haven't heard of the menopause having anything to do with it.

It’s possible. I’m not one for going too often I don’t have any specific pattern to my bowel movements. I usually have a looser bowel at certain points of my cycle which is why I wondered about it being hormonal. Or I could possibly have a bug I suppose

Hi
This could be ibd - such as ulcerative colitis. It’s a classic symptom of colitis. Probably worth checking with gp and they’ll send you for colonoscopy. I had it when I was diagnosed with ibd - not nice I know! I’m not trying to scare you or anything and obviously I can’t diagnose! But just wanted to suggest this as it happened to me. But you would probably have some other symptoms too.

I have health anxiety so I’m trying not to jump to any worst case scenarios. I have a doc app for something else a week tomorrow so will watch and wait til then and speak to her about it if it continues.

I’ve no other symptoms really

I would actually assume the antibiotics are the culprit as the first port of call. See if it clears up in a few days.

I’d have assumed the antibiotics too

Yes when I read your OP , I also thought that would be the antibiotics. You may want to take some probiotics (I like Biocare ones) until it settles.

I had the same when taking flucloxicillin. It's why I refused it when offered late in pregnancy just incase I went into labour!
Seemed to pass when I finished the course but worth mentioning to GP

I've had this on the odd occasion OP. I'd assume the antibiotics. Just monitor it over the next week.

Antibiotics can really upset your stomach flora by killing all the bacteria good and bad. I've got IBD and have made a few mistakes when breaking wind but I'm sure if you had IBD you'd have more issues then a bit of follow through!

I would suspect it’s the medication as well. Perhaps you could ask your pharmacist to recommend some good quality probiotic to help rebalance the gut flora.

Hi everyone just to update. I had mucus and bleeding through the night so went to gp who checked and I have internal piles which he thinks was caused by the upset stomach I had with the flucloxicillin

Hi again everyone. Any tips on fixing the damage the antibiotics have done to my digestion? Imodium has just delayed the diahorrea And after having a normal poo yesterday (I was stupidly excited) I’m back to the scoots today. Grr. Is it just a case of wait?

Hi

Would recommend Actimel drinks. You can also buy tablets in Holland and Barrat that help balance the good bacteria back in the gut. Think they are called Acidophilus.

Hope this helps
